Casement windows,
standard or flush-fitting.
The classic British window: sashes hinged at the side or top that open outwards, with fixed panes where you don’t need an opener. In steel-reinforced uPVC or slim aluminium, made to measure, A-rated as standard and fitted across Suffolk and Essex by Admiral’s own team. Take a written price away, and decide in your own time.

What is a casement window? One that opens like a door.
A casement sash is hinged at the side or the top and opens outwards, so it airs a room well and closes tight against its seals. Most windows mix the two: an opening sash or two beside a fixed pane, laid out to suit the room and the view.
- Side-hung sashes that open wide, and top-hung sashes for airing the room
- Fixed panes wherever you don’t need to open: more glass, less frame
- Multi-point locking that bolts into the frame
- Georgian bars, leaded lights or decorative glass, if you like them
Standard or flush? The difference is the sash.
Both open the same way. What changes is how the opening sash meets the frame, and so how the window looks from the street.
Standard casements
The opening sash sits proud of the frame and laps over it to seal. Neat, warm and the most affordable, it’s the look most modern houses already have.
- In white, grey, black, cream or woodgrain uPVC
- Or slim aluminium, for more glass and less frame
Flush casements
The sash closes level with the frame, the way traditional timber windows do. Dummy sashes on the fixed panes keep every sightline equal, so the window looks balanced from outside.

French windows. No post in the middle.
A French casement, or French window, has two sashes that open outwards from the middle and lock into each other, with no post between them. Open both and nothing interrupts the view, or the way out.
- A wide, clear opening: often chosen for bedrooms upstairs, where building regulations ask for an escape window
- In uPVC, or in Smart and Origin aluminium in any RAL colour
- Multi-point locks where the two sashes meet
French windows sit above a sill, like any window. For a pair of glazed doors out to the garden, see our French doors.
Are casements right for you? Our honest advice.
Casements suit almost any house, old or new. A few openings are better served by another style, and we’ll say so at your survey.
Casements suit
- Most houses and bungalows built from the 1930s on
- Cottages and period homes, with flush sashes and Georgian bars
- Rooms you want to air well, with a wide opening
- Replacing old casements like for like, one or two at a time
Look at another style if
- The house has box sashes, or you’re in a conservation area: sliding sash windows
- The window opens onto a path, or you’d like to clean the outside from indoors: tilt and turn windows
- You’re replacing steel windows, or want the steel look: Crittall-style windows
- You’d like more light and a deeper room: bay and bow windows
Your colours. Your layout.

Made to measure, your way
Our own surveyor measures every opening, so each window is built to its exact size. You choose:
- Which panes open, and which way they’re hinged
- Standard or flush sashes, with dummy sashes to match
- A-rated double glazing, or triple and acoustic glass
- Georgian bars, leaded lights and handles in a finish to suit

- Victorian cottage
“Ours is a small Victorian cottage and although we at first wanted wooden windows to keep the cottage looking authentic we were persuaded to move over to the Admiral upvc ones as they really do look like wood when viewed from the outside…”
Lesley Hickman - Conservation area
“As we are in a conservation area they helped us with window selection and were very knowledgeable about what windows were required. The fitters were excellent and we were surprised how little disruption there was to each room.”
Mrs Hall - Whole house
“Ash and Jake are 2 genuinely nice guys with a wealth of expertise and fitted the whole house in 2 days to an excellent standard.”

How much do casement windows cost?
Every window is made to measure, so the price depends on the size, how many panes open, the frame, the colour and the glass. One of our own surveyors measures every opening for free, and you get a written quote to take away. Finance is available at 12.9% APR representative.
What’s the difference between standard and flush casements?
On a standard casement the opening sash sits proud of the frame; on a flush casement it closes level with it, like a traditional timber window. Flush casements cost a little more and suit cottages, period homes and modern houses that want a flat, tidy look. See both.
Are casement windows secure?
Yes. Our uPVC casements are steel-reinforced with multi-point locking that bolts into the frame, and our aluminium casements are strong and rigid by nature. Toughened or laminated glass can be added where you want it.
Can a casement be a fire escape window?
Yes. A side-hung casement can be made to open wide enough to escape through, and a French casement, with no post in the middle, gives the widest clear opening. Building regulations ask for escape windows in some rooms upstairs; we check which of yours need one at the survey.
Are casement windows energy efficient?
Yes. They close tight against their seals, and all our windows are A-rated as standard, with triple glazing and acoustic glass available. In England, replacement windows must reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better, or energy rating Band B, and every window we offer meets or beats that.
uPVC or aluminium casements?
uPVC is the affordable, low-maintenance choice, and flush or woodgrain sashes can pass for timber. Aluminium has slimmer frames for more glass, in any RAL colour. See uPVC windows and aluminium windows, or compare them side by side in our showroom.
Will casements suit a period home or a conservation area?
Often, yes. Flush casements with Georgian bars are made to look like traditional timber windows. In a conservation area your council decides what’s allowed, and for a listed building, where the original windows have to stay, secondary glazing adds warmth from the inside. We’ll tell you what’s likely to suit at your survey.
Do you fit French windows?
Yes. A French window is a pair of casement sashes that open from the middle with no post between them, in uPVC or aluminium. More about French windows.
Which areas do you cover?
We fit casement windows across Suffolk and Essex from our showroom in Ipswich, including Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Kesgrave, Stowmarket, Hadleigh, Manningtree and Colchester. Put your postcode in the quote form and we’ll confirm.
