Replace the roof,
keep the conservatory.
Too hot in summer and too cold in winter? A new roof is designed to go on your conservatory’s own frames: a lightweight tiled roof from Ultraframe or SupaLite, Ultraframe’s Livinroof of insulated panels and glass, or a glass roof in performance glass. A simple Ultraframe roof can go on in a day. Surveyed, fitted and signed off by Admiral across Suffolk and Essex. See what sets the price.
- Made for your own frames

Your conservatory, with its new roof.
Pick the shape you have, then try each roof on it. We’ll start your quote from your choice, and recommend the right roof for yours at the survey.
Ultraroof
- A lightweight tiled roof with a plastered, vaulted ceiling inside: slate-effect tiles in Carbon Grey, Harvest Brown or Terra Brick, or metal shingle-effect Metrotile in Charcoal, Burnt Umber or Antique Red.
Ultraroof with glass panels
- The tiled roof with full-length glass panels let in, for daylight where you want it.
Livinroof
- Insulated grey panels, with glass in almost any shape set in wherever the light is wanted.
Performance glass
- A new glass roof that keeps the light, with self-cleaning glass that cuts the sun’s heat and glare.
A guide to the look, not a design. We check your frames and the base, and draw your roof, at the survey.
What’s in a warm roof, and why it feels like a room.
A solid replacement roof is insulated like the roof of a house, so the room stops overheating in summer and losing its warmth in winter. Ultraroof and Livinroof both have:
- Insulated panels: a U-value of 0.15 as standard, or 0.12 if you’d like it warmer, and, Ultraframe says, up to 15 times better at keeping heat in than the roof they replace.
- Glass where you want it: full-length glass panels in Ultraroof, or glass in almost any shape in Livinroof.
- A plastered, vaulted ceiling inside, or a flat ceiling with Livinroof, to match the room next door.
- An insulated pelmet around the edge, 300 to 1,200 mm wide, for spotlights or speakers.
- A light build: 38 kg/m² for Ultraroof and 31 kg/m² for Livinroof, not much more than glass, so your frames can often stay.
- Engineered to your postcode: Ultraframe designs each roof for the wind and snow where you live.
SupaLite’s tiled roof, the other one we fit, is built on an aluminium frame: under 46 kg/m², with over 150 mm of insulation for a U-value of 0.15 (0.12 enhanced). Its SkyVista panels are self-cleaning, solar-control glass set into the tiles, and SupaLite guarantees the roof for 10 years.
Ultraroof, Livinroof or glass? Side by side.
All three fit Victorian, Edwardian, lean-to, gable-end and P-shaped conservatories. Which suits yours depends on the light you want, the look outside and the room next door; we’ll advise at the survey.

Keeping a glass roof? Make it a better one.
Ultraframe’s Glass Roof has been refined for over 30 years, and over a million have been fitted. Today’s roof glass is far better than the glass or polycarbonate most older conservatories have:
- Cooler in summer
- Depending on the glass, it keeps out up to 82% of the sun’s heat, and tints cut the glare.
- Warmer in winter
- Double-glazed units with a U-value as low as 1.0, against 2.8 for ordinary glass, says Ultraframe.
- Self-cleaning
- A clear coating uses daylight and rain to break down dirt and wash it away.
- Toughened
- Toughened safety glass on both panes, made in specialist roof glass factories.
- Tints
- Blue, Neutral, Aqua or Bronze, to suit which way the room faces.
- Lighting
- Add an insulated pelmet for spotlights, or a central lighting panel along the ridge.
A new roof, more, or a whole new room.
Most people with a conservatory they can’t use start with the roof. Some go further. We’ll tell you honestly which yours needs.
- The usual way
Re-roof
A new roof on the frames you have. The quickest change, and the one that makes the biggest difference to how warm the room is.
- Roof and frames
Re-roof and re-frame
If the windows or doors are tired too, we replace them at the same time, perhaps with bifolds, so it all matches.
- Rebuild
Rebuild
If the base or frames won’t take a new roof, or you want more room, an orangery or a new conservatory may suit better.
From survey to sign-off. Often a day or two on site.
We measure, design, fit and sign off the roof ourselves, and deal with Building Regulations for you.
Free survey
We measure the conservatory, check the frames and the base will take the new roof, and talk through the light and the look you want.
Your written quote
One price for the roof, the fitting and the finish inside, to take away and think over.
Designed for your home
Ultraframe engineers the roof for your postcode’s wind and snow, then makes it to measure.
Building Regulations
A solid roof needs approval. Ultraframe’s and SupaLite’s solid roofs have system approval, and we arrange it all, inspections included.
Fitting day
We protect your floor, take off the old roof and fit the new one. A simple roof is on in a day.
Plastering and sign-off
A solid roof is plastered over the next day or so. Then the lights, the checks and the completion certificate.
How much is a new conservatory roof? Here’s what sets the price.
Every roof is made to measure, so we price yours after a free survey: one written price for the roof, the fitting and the finish inside. These are the choices that move it:
- The roof
- A glass roof in performance glass, a Livinroof, or a tiled roof from Ultraframe or SupaLite.
- Size and shape
- A lean-to is the simplest; a Victorian or P-shaped roof has more facets to make.
- Glass panels
- How many you want in a solid roof, and the glass in them.
- Inside
- Plastering, an insulated pelmet with spotlights, and a central lighting panel.
- Your frames
- Usually they stay. New windows or doors at the same time add to the price, and to the difference.
- Spreading the cost
- Finance at 12.9% APR representative over 1 to 10 years. Work out a monthly payment.

How much does a replacement conservatory roof cost?
It depends on the roof, the size and shape of the conservatory, the glass panels you want and the finish inside. We survey for free and give you one written price for the roof, the fitting and the finish. See what sets the price. Finance is available at 12.9% APR representative.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not, as long as the size and shape stay the same. If the conservatory itself needed permission, the new roof might too, and listed buildings, conservation areas and some new-builds have their own rules. We check yours at the survey.
Do I need Building Regulations approval?
For a solid roof, yes: changing a glazed roof to a solid one means Building Regulations apply. Ultraroof and Livinroof have system approval from MFA Building Control and Stroma, and SupaLite’s tiled roof from Stroma. We arrange it all. Building Control still inspects your roof, and you get a completion certificate to keep with your deeds: a buyer’s solicitor will ask for it. A new glass roof doesn’t usually need approval.
Will my conservatory take the weight of a solid roof?
Usually. Livinroof weighs 31 kg/m² and Ultraroof 38 kg/m², not much more than a glass roof, and SupaLite’s tiled roof under 46 kg/m², so the original frames can often stay, and the extra load on the base is very small. The makers require a check of the frames, base and walls, so we look for any sign of movement at the survey and tell you honestly if they need work.
How long does it take?
A simple Ultraframe roof goes on in a day, and a solid roof is plastered over the next day or so. SupaLite says its tiled roof takes 3 to 4 days on a standard conservatory, before plastering. Bigger or more complicated shapes take longer, and we’ll tell you with your quote. We protect your floor and furniture while we work.
Will I lose the light?
Not if you don’t want to. Ultraroof can have full-length glass panels, and Livinroof can have glass in almost any shape, wherever the light is wanted, such as over a dining table or by the door to the next room. SupaLite’s SkyVista panels are self-cleaning, solar-control glass set into the tiles, letting in about 45% of the light. Or keep a glass roof, in better glass.
How much warmer will it be?
A lot. Ultraroof, Livinroof and SupaLite’s tiled roof are all insulated to a U-value of 0.15, and Ultraframe says its roofs are up to 15 times better at keeping heat in than the roof being replaced. The room stays cooler in summer, too.
Can you replace a P-shaped roof?
Yes. Ultraroof, Livinroof, the Glass Roof and SupaLite’s tiled roof can all be made for Victorian, Edwardian, lean-to, gable-end and P-shaped conservatories. Livinroof also suits low-pitched lean-tos, from 5°.
Can I have lights in it?
Yes. Spotlights or speakers go in the insulated pelmet around the edge, and a solid roof has braces inside its plasterboard, so pendant lights can hang from the highest point. A glass roof can have a central lighting panel along the ridge.
Is a solid roof fire safe?
Yes. Ultraroof and Livinroof have each been fire tested as complete roofs by independent laboratories, and both are rated BROOF under EN 13501-5. SupaLite’s tiled roof has Stroma system approval, which includes the regulation on fire spreading over a roof.
Do I need new windows as well?
Not usually: the roof is designed to go on the frames you have. If they’re tired, or you’d like bifolds, we can replace them at the same time, so the windows, doors and roof all match.
Can’t you just insulate the roof I have?
We don’t clad over old roofs. We take the old roof off and fit a complete new one. Ultraframe and SupaLite both warn against clad-overs: extra weight on frames that weren’t built for it, condensation, no fire test of the whole roof, and no Building Regulations approval.
What guarantee comes with the roof?
A 10-year guarantee from its maker, Ultraframe or SupaLite. It covers the roof, not the fitting, and Ultraframe gives 5 years on painted and foiled parts and 1 year on electrics. Ask us to explain our own cover for the work before you order.
Can I spread the cost?
Yes. Finance through Novuna at 12.9% APR representative, from £500 to £25,000 over 1 to 10 years, or buy now, pay later at 14.9% APR. Finance is subject to status. Try the calculator.
